Posted On behalf of Simien & Simien on Oct 09, 2013 in Automotive

30-year-old Jeremy Sims led Houma police on a dangerous chase through several subdivisions following a traffic stop on Tuesday, October 8 at approximately 10:09 p.m., and in the back seat of his vehicle were his two children, ages 5 and 2-years-old.

Sims and passenger Darreka I. Boykins, 37, were approached by an officer while their vehicle idled in the middle of the road in the area of East Street and Daniel Turner Trailer Avenue, though before they officer could reach them the pair sped off and continued to evade police, reaching speeds upward of 70 mph.

The chase continued until Sims hit a curb and was removed from the vehicle by police, when it was discovered that his two young children had been in the back seat the entire time.

Sims was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, obstruction of justice, stop/standing in a roadway, and several other counts; Boykins was arrested on prior warrants for traffic and drug violations and child desertion.
