Three innocent victims were killed Sunday morning in College Park, Georgia, after they were struck and killed by an SUV. The SUV was believed to be stolen and the driver was fleeing police in a high speed chase. The suspect ran from the crash scene and has not been found.
The victims were a 75-year-old woman and her two grandchildren, a 12-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl.. The grandchildren were visiting her from Fayetteville.
The 2015 Chevrolet Suburban was reported stolen from a hotel near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
College Park police attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver sped off, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The fatal car accident occurred near Gordon Street and Rogers Avenue in southwest Atlanta, when the driver made a U-turn and crashed into the 1995 Buick LeSabre occupied by the victims. The LeSabre flipped over on impact, and the suspect ran away on foot.
Police tried to revive the victims with CPR and first aid, but were unable to. The body of the 6-year-old girl was not found until nearly 12 hours later, as she was thrown a good distance from the car.
The woman and her two grandchildren were on their way to Sunday church service at First Peter AME church. Police believe the suspect may have sustained injuries and are asking anyone who has any information to contact them.
This is the second time in one week that innocent people in Atlanta were killed in a car accident by a driver in a high speed pursuit. Last Thursday, a married couple in their 70's was killed by a drunk driver fleeing police.
