1 Killed, 3 Injured in Louisiana Oil Platform Explosion

Posted On behalf of Simien & Simien on Nov 21, 2014 in Oil And Gas

One person was killed and three others were injured in an explosion on the West Delta 105 oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico just 12 miles off the coast of Louisiana.

The Echo platform, operated by Houston-based Fieldwood Energy, had not been in production for about a week when the explosion was reported just before 3 p.m. on Nov. 20. No pollution was reported.

Reports indicate that workers from Turnkey cleaning services were cleaning a piece of equipment called a heater treater, which separates oil from processed water, when the accident occurred. Three people are being treated at an onshore medical facility for minor injuries. None of the victims’ names have been released.

Simien & Simien sends their deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one in yesterday’s tragic accident. The oilfield injury lawyers at Simien & Simien will continue to monitor this developing story.

If you have lost a loved one in a workplace accident or been injured in an oilfield accident you may be entitled to file a claim for damages.
