The Top 10 Scariest Car Accidents in Movie History

Posted On behalf of Simien & Simien on Nov 26, 2013 in Automotive

Car accidents in movies are a plenty whether they are minor ones or those that end up life-changing. Although accidents have changed as movie audiences want bigger, better, and flashier collisions some accidents still stand the test of time.

Here are some of the top 10 scariest car accidents in movie history.

Transformers 3
Would you expect that a movie based on vehicles that transform into intergalactic robots to not have a few car crashes? In the third installment of this popular movie series, a highway chase ended with 532 cars destroyed. Luckily all the vehicles had been donated because they were flood damaged and had to be scrapped anyway.

Bad Boys 2
In the movie Michael Bay brought most everyone’s worst nightmare to life. Vehicles being transported on a semi-trailer were cut loose leading to dozens of mangled cars all the while a shootout is occurring.

Final Destination 2
Seeing a horrific multi-vehicle crash before it happens is ultimately life-saving, but only for so long.

The Terminator
Not only is a difficult to choose which terminator movie to feature, it is difficult to decide which car crash scene to feature. The classic semi-trailer accident wins out however the crane driving through a city and demolishing cars and buildings in Terminator 3 comes in close second.

National Lampoon’s Vacation
Clark Griswold just wanted to take a nice vacation with his family, however, their vacations never turn out as planned. This single-vehicle wreck resulted in no injuries but did leave the family stranded.

Adaptation
Some of the worst car accidents are the ones viewers see coming, the scene shows how in just 30 seconds a person’s life can be changed forever.

Premonition
Imagine watching a car crash over and over and over. Similar to Groundhog’s Day, in this movie a woman tries to save her husband’s life by preventing the tragic jackknife accident that leads to his death.

Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
Remakes are not always better. The original Gone in 60 Seconds featured a memorable car crash scene that resulted in 93 cars being destroyed. What makes this so memorable? Some of accidents were actually unscripted.

The Matrix Reloaded
300 vehicles were destroyed during the making of this movie, however, the slow motion head-on semi-trailer accident was all CGI.
