Two children were killed and another critically injured in an early morning truck accident in Breaux Bridge.
Sometime before 8 a.m. police were called to the scene of a truck accident on Martin Street near Babineaux Street. The truck ran off the road, struck a ditch and then a telephone pole, which caused severe bodily damage.
Although no other vehicles were involved in the accident, three, middle school-aged children were struck by the truck. Investigators are still gathering information about the accident, but they believe the children were walking to school.
The driver is in police custody and impairment may have been a factor in the crash. He was transported to the hospital, but his condition is unknown.
Two of the children died at the scene of the accident and the other child has been transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. The child is in critical condition.
The identities of the children and driver have not been released. The attorneys and staff at Simien & Simien extend their sincerest condolences to the families of both of these young victims.
