GM: Recalling 3.1 M Vehicles for Ignition Issues

General Motors has announced that they will be recalling an additional 3.16 million vehicles as the ignition switch may inadvertently move out of the “run” position if they key is carrying extra weight or is jarred.

The announcement comes more than four months after GM began recalling 2.6 million small vehicles to fix defective ignition switches. To date, GM has recalled nearly 20 million vehicles this year for a variety of safety issues; the ignition switch issue has led to the largest number of recalls.

GM says the ignition switch is different than the one used in the Chevy Cobalt line, but the issue is very similar. The vehicles affected by the most recent recall include:

  • Buick Lacrosse, MY 2005-2009
  • Chevrolet Impala, MY 2006-2014
  • Cadillac Deville, MY 2000-2005
  • Cadillac DTS, MY 2004-2011
  • Buick Lucerne, MY 2006-2011
  • Buick Regal LS & GS, MY 2004-2005
  • Chevy Monte Carlo, MY 2006-2008

The list does not include Chevy Camaros, which were recalled just days ago. Approximately 454,000 Camaros were recalled for a similar issue involving the ignition switch. According to GM, the auto manufacturer is aware of at least three motor vehicle accidents and four injuries related to the Camaro’s defects.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a Baton Rouge car accident that was caused by a vehicle defect, the victim may be entitled to compensation for their losses.
