Harold Eggleston was killed Friday night as he attempted to cross Florida Boulevard near North Corbin Road just before 8:00 p.m.
Eggleston was driving a tractor-trailer eastbound on Florida Boulevard when he stopped the truck in the center turning lane at the intersection. He then got out of the truck and asked two men working nearby a question. Eggleston returned to his truck to retrieve a notepad. After stepping down onto the roadway again, he began walking across the westbound lane where he was hit by a pickup truck.
Eggleston was killed upon impact and pronounced dead at the scene. The roadways were closed for three hours as police worked with the driver of the pickup truck and witnesses to determine what happened.
The driver of the pickup truck told police that Eggleston unexpectedly stepped into the lane and that he was unable to avoid hitting the man. Police are still investigating the accident and no charges are expected to be filed.
