Serious Crashes Leave Two Drivers Dead, Three-Year-Old Injured

This week, two car accidents left two drivers dead and a 3-year-old in the hospital in stable condition.

The first accident happened on Sunday night just before 11 p.m. on the eastbound side of Airline Highway in Baton Rouge.

A 1996 Cadillac Deville veered into another lane and hit a 2012 Chevrolet Impala. The collision caused the Cadillac to travel off the road into a construction zone where it hit a concrete driveway and rolled over, coming to a stop upside down before being engulfed in flames.

The 3-year-old was in the Cadillac and was ejected from the vehicle before the fire started. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old driver of the Cadillac was pronounced dead at the scene.

The toddler and the driver of the Chevrolet were taken to the hospital, but they were in stable condition.

The second fatal car accident occurred in Livingston Parish early Thursday morning on U.S. 190, when the 68-year-old driver of a GMC Sierra maneuvered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another car.

The 68-year-old was taken to a local hospital where he died. The driver of the other car survived, but sustained severe injuries, according to Louisiana State Police.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and authorities do not suspect that either one of them was impaired. However, they do not know the reason why the GMC Sierra driver veered into oncoming traffic.

Unfortunately, fatal car accidents like these have increased in the last couple of years for a variety of reasons, from distracted driving to speeding.

The one thing tying many of these fatal accidents together is negligence. One driver’s reckless or intentional actions led to a dangerous situation that caused someone or multiple people to die.
