Car accidents can happen in an instant, and when they do we expect the other driver to stop and wait for law enforcement to report the crash. Unfortunately, all too often drivers will flee the scene fearing the repercussions of the accident.
When you’re involved in a car crash and need help obtaining financial compensation for medical expenses, property damage and lost wages, it can be difficult to know who to turn to when the party at-fault did not provide their information.
If you or someone you love was injured in a motor vehicle accident and the negligent driver at-fault fled the scene, let car accident lawyer at Simien & Simien help you obtain the compensation you need to get your life back on track.

According to the Louisiana state laws, revised statute 32 section 398, accidents must be reported and information must be provided. Specifically, if a driver is involved in an accident resulting in injury, death or property damage in excess of $500, they must immediately give notice to the local police department or the nearest sheriff’s office.
Information such as the driver’s name, address and registration number of the vehicle they were driving must be provided.
If a driver fails to stop at the scene and render aid, their license may be suspended for an extended period of time. If a driver leaves the scene of a serious accident that led to injuries or even death, they may be charged with a large fine and spend time in jail. Since 2013, there have been more than 3,000 hit and run crashes resulting in injury in Louisiana.
Although a car crash can be a devastating experience, the first few minutes after the impact are crucial. Contact law enforcement as soon as possible and request emergency medical services if you or someone else have been injured.
If the other driver fled the scene, try to write down any details you recall about the vehicle or the driver, such as the vehicle’s make and model or the what color clothing the driver was wearing. Any details, no matter how small, could help authorities find the other driver.
Even if you have underinsured or uninsured insurance coverage, a hit and run lawyer could help you obtain the compensation you deserve.
