36M Americans May Travel for Memorial Day Weekend

The American Auto Association, also known as AAA, projects that 36.1 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The number of travelers is 1.5 percent higher than it was in 2013.

Memorial Day kicks off the summer driving season with about eight in ten travelers expected to drive to their holiday destination.

The number of Americans traveling is 2.6 percent higher than the average for the past ten years; it is the second highest volume of travelers since 2000.

About 80 percent of travelers will be driving to their destination, another 2.4 percent will be traveling by air while the remainder will be going on a cruise or traveling by trains and buses. Travelers can expect to encounter higher airfare along with higher hotel and rental car prices. However, drivers can expect much lower gas prices due to rising supplies.

According to the Louisiana crash data reports, there were more than 300 accidents reported over Memorial Day weekend in 2013. The number of collisions had continued increasing since 2011. The car accident lawyers at Simien & Simien would like to wish everyone safe travels this weekend.
