Takata Corp. Reveals That Replacement Airbags Were Also Defective

In May 2015, Takata Corp. (Takata) announced the largest auto recall in history, affecting approximately 34 million vehicles. Now, the airbag manufacturer has revealed that many of the cars that were already repaired, will have to have a second airbag replacement.

The Baton Rouge personal injury lawyers have been monitoring the Takata airbag recall saga since news first broke about how dangerous these devices were. We believe that those who have been injured or who have lost a loved as a result of Takata’s negligence deserve justice.

Takata’s Congressional Hearing

On Tuesday, a Takata executive went in front of Congress and revealed that many of the vehicles with repaired airbags have a “batwing” inflator. After much research and testing, it is believed that the “batwing” inflator is the cause of the exploding airbags.

The batwing inflators have been found in each of the vehicles wherein a person was seriously or fatally injured by the airbag after an accident.

Takata does not precisely know how many vehicles with replaced airbags will have to be recalled again. Additionally, the company will stop producing airbags with the batwing inflators.

Safety experts are especially concerned that motorists will ignore the second recall notice they receive as they believe the issue has already been repaired. As the airbag saga has been unfolding over the course of a few months, some people may not be aware of newly announced recalls and changes.

These dangerous airbags have caused more than 100 injuries and six deaths across the globe. If you or someone you love has been injured by a defective Takata airbag, the victim may be entitled to compensation.
